Alfred “Al” E. Lyman, Sr. , born: September 20, 1940, died: July 12, 2022,  Age: 81 & 10 months - Kansas City, MO.

Al Lyman was an ACF life member and the web creator of the first ACF website, later renamed it  checkerworld.com, but has been down for many years.  Al was also a past editor of our ACFB.  He was a checker book dealer and developed several checker programs and aids that were helpful in learning checkers.  Possibly his best program was  “Straight Checkers - Gold Version by Al Lyman” which included most of his best previous lessons and many new lessons. This program was an advancement in checker tutorials, making Lyman a pioneer in a computer program that provided practical information about specific checker tactics, strategies, opening, endings, etc, and applying it to the 3-Move Deck.  I'm sure he got some ideas from the chess community. “Straight Checkers” is still a wonderful tool for someone starting out in checkers and available from Pat Patrick or myself.
